As wine features unique characteristics of the specific land, we believe that Japanese Wine should be defined as the wine made purely from the domestic grapes.
Unfortunately, however, the current Japanese legislation allows those wines vinified or blended domestically to be labeled as Japanese Wine, even though they are made from imported materials such as grapes, grape juice, or wine from overseas.
With the aim to support domestic wine-producers who are making diligent efforts in winemaking, we at Association of Nippon Wine Lovers only regard wines vinified and bottled domestically using only pure domestic cultivation as Japanese Wine, and desire for their quality improvement and increased consumption.
